You could try to count the changes that have taken place in Western Washington over the last 45 years; how many governors have we had? How many new Boeing jetliners have been designed? How many professional sports teams have come, and gone?
In a world that’s constantly changing, it’s nice to have a constant. For KING 5 Television, there’s no question Jean Enersen has been the rock behind our community-minded brand of local journalism for more than 45 years.
This Saturday, Western Washington will have the opportunity to sit down with Jean Enersen like never before. KING 5 News with Jean Enersen, An Anniversary Celebration is a first of its kind interview with the famously-private anchor. It’s a conversation between friends: Jean and long-time co-anchor Dennis Bounds.
Throughout this special program, Jean takes an intimate look back at the life-altering events, groundbreaking stories and medical breakthroughs she’s experienced over 45 years at KING. The conversation gets personal as Dennis explores a broadcasting career that started in 1968 and led to Jean’s position as the first female anchor of a local newscast.
“You know I had wanted to try it out for a long time, I didn’t see it as a job that men could do or women couldn’t do, I just saw it as a job that looked really interesting to me… eventually they let me try and I think it worked out pretty well.” ~ Jean Enersen
Dennis also asks Jean about her personal commitment to health, how she stays in shape, her long-time commitment to health reporting and why she is dedicated to sharing lifesaving medical information with others.
“I think I was lucky that my parents were basically healthy and a lot of what we did as a family was play. I have always been impressed about how well you are served with a healthy body.”
