This appointment marks the first assignment for Lts. Dwelle. They graduated from The Salvation Army Officer Training College in Crestmont, CA, in June 2011, each with Associate of Arts degrees in Ministry. They replace Justin and Aimee Docherty, who left to attend the same college.
The Eastside Corps, located in Bellevue on 164th Avenue NE, has an active and growing community and congregation. Among the services offered are free weeknight community suppers, youth athletic leagues, rent/utility assistance, after-school tutoring, summer camps, and holiday assistance.
The Lts. Dwelle each worked at Salvation Army locations prior to attending training college. Both are natives of California. Lt. Darryck assisted at Roseville Corps in California, and Lts. Sierra was a social services director for service extension areas near Woodland, California.
The Lts. have two sons, Zechariah (age three) and Justus (two weeks old).
The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 when William Booth decided to take his ministry into the streets of London where it would reach the poor, the homeless, the hungry and the destitute. It is now part of the universal Christian Church, and an international organization meeting human needs in 123 countries around the globe. The Salvation Army continues its tradition in Western Washington by serving nearly 400,000 people annually, always meeting human needs without discrimination. Among the services offered in this region are rent/utility/gas assistance, food pantry, clothing, disaster relief services, day care centers, summer camps, holiday assistance, services for the aging, medical facilities, shelters for battered women and children, family and career counseling, vocational training, correction services, and substance abuse rehabilitation.
